Michelle DiNicola is a digital artist and photographer who started working in mosaics two years ago after taking a class taught by her mother, Josephine Alexander of Grandmother Moon Mosaics. In the (admittedly old) photo above is Michelle with a self portrait of Grandmother Moon Mosaics by Josephine. Michelle has a BA in Digital Imaging, and her years spent studying pixels and light in the digital art space and some experience in stained glass work helped pave the way for Michelle's transition into mosaic art.
Michelle resides in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA, along the mighty Susquehanna River, with her husband and their eight cats. She has won Best in Show at the Art Association of Harrisburg twice for her mosaic work, one a solo entry, and one a joint entry with her mother Josephine.
She enjoys incorporating faceted glass beads, millefiori, mirror, and glass gems into her work, and loves working with iridized stained glass. She also enjoys creating added dimension in her pieces from time to time by layering glitter, paint, and fabric under transparent glass, or by working with transparent glass on mirror. She primarily creates her art in the evenings after work as a therapeutic way to unwind, and is often assisted by her very talented cats.
